A grand jury in Ohio indicted a man on charges of murder and sexual assault involving multiple teenage victims.
Devin Thompson, 29, had an active rape warrant out for his arrest on Oct. 13, when he allegedly broke into a residence in Cleveland just before 6 a.m., according to the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office.
Once inside the home, Thompson is accused of fatally stabbing Mitanna Penn, 16, and then raping a 16-year-old female before fleeing the scene.

At the time of the alleged offenses, Thompson had already been indicted on counts of rape and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor by a previous grand jury, according to prosecutors.
The female was rushed to a local hospital to receive treatment after emergency services arrived at the residence, while Penn was declared dead at the scene.
Thompson was eventually apprehended two days later by officers with the Cleveland Police Department.
The investigation into the incident is still ongoing, but on Oct. 21, a grand jury voted to indict Thompson on 42 counts.
Those charges, which include those Thompson had previously been indicted for, appear in a superseding indictment filed in the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas and consist of two counts of aggravated murder, one count of murder, two counts of aggravated burglary, five counts of rape, one count of kidnapping, two counts of felonious assault, 13 counts of pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor or impaired person, 13 counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, one count of tampering with evidence, one count of menacing by stalking and one count of aggravated menacing.
Thompson, who remains in custody, is set to be arraigned at Cuyahoga County Justice Center later this year.
Meanwhile, Penn’s aunt paid tribute to the young boy on Facebook as the family prepares to honor his life later this month.
“Your smile lit up a room. You were a great dancer, swaggy af, and so silly. These 16 years of memories I have with you just aren’t enough. You had so much more life to live, Tanna. A whole life ahead of you,” wrote Micháela Penn.
She continued that her “heart is crushed knowing you aren’t here anymore,” adding that “breaking the news to my mother was the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life,” before closing out by stating: “I promise you, no stone will go unturned in getting justice for you.”
Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley also released a statement after the grand jury returned with its indictment.
“This case is beyond disturbing and extremely tragic. The defendant’s actions demonstrate a complete disregard for human life,” O’Malley said. “We will pursue justice for Mitanna Penn and every victim harmed by Devin Thompson.”
