Even Drake Can’t Resist the Siren Song of a Boho Fall

Save this story Save Story Save this story There are certain names that will forever be synonymous with boho style, but Drake has made a compelling case for adding his own to the compendium.

Of course, there’s Kate Moss , her shaggy coats and denim short-shorts; Sienna Miller and her penchant for waistcoats and ruffled skirts; and more recently, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Dakota Johnson , who fly the flag for a softer, more contemporary take on the free-spirited fashion. Drizzy, as the latest addition to the boho brigade, has his own take.

The rapper, who turns 40 tomorrow, was spotted heading to an early birthday dinner at Mamo restaurant in New York City, dressed in a look that wouldn’t have been entirely out of place in Moss’s or Miller’s mid-aughts wardrobe. The centerpiece was a sweeping, chestnut-brown poncho, its generous silhouette and long, swishing fringe bringing that distinctly bohemian sensibility to an otherwise pared-back outfit. Beneath it, Drake wore a simple black crewneck knit, straight-cut black leather trousers, and black boots.

Of course, Drake has never been one to stick to a single fashion formula. Over the years, his wardrobe has moved between sharp tailoring, sporty staples, and collegiate influences, with shell jackets, fleeces, wide-legged trousers, and oversized silhouettes all making regular appearances. He’s equally unafraid of a bold color or unexpected texture. Earlier this week, for example, he made a courtside appearance at the Toronto Raptors game against the Chicago Bulls wearing a pair of embellished, bright-red cowboy boots—another little nod to the Western influences that have been filtering through fashion of late.

And his personal wardrobe is something to behold. His recent FOMO short film offered an unusually intimate glimpse into his expansive collection of fashion and accessories, from an array of rare timepieces—including a custom emerald Patek Philippe Nautilus designed by Virgil Abloh and enough Rolex watches to make any collector's head spin—to an impressive assortment of Birkin bags in shades of gray and blue and brown crocodile. There was also a generous helping of Chrome Hearts, including custom leather pieces that speak to his taste for the extravagant and the highly collectible.

So what’s the Drake take on boho for the season ahead? It’s a city-ready spin on the trend usually best suited to festivals and summering, and also a reminder that bohemian dressing needn’t be all floaty dresses and vintage waistcoats—there’s a masculine edge to be found amid the fringe. Welcome to your boho era, Drizzy.
