A Georgia family is mourning the loss of a teen, who was allegedly shot and killed by a close friend.

Jayden Miller, 16, was fatally shot in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Oct. 20, Fox 5 Atlanta, WSB-TV and 11 Alive reported.

His older sister, Gabbi Hood Miller, claimed her younger brother was spending the night with one of his friends when he died at the Oak Run apartments on Main Street in Clayton County, per WSB-TV.

PEOPLE reached out to the Clayton County Police Department for comment, but did not immediately receive a response.

Hood Miller alleged that another friend who was with the boys that night told her Jayden and his friend went outside to play fight to impress the girlfriend of Jayden’s friend, WSB-TV reported.

The person her sibling was fighting with is alleged to have shot the teen.

“Senseless, senseless,” Hood Miller told Fox 5 Atlanta in a joint on-camera interview with her cousin Shakira Terry and another relative. “Don’t bring a gun to a hand fight and just ran off into the woods.”

Police have not publicly identified a suspect and do not have anyone in custody, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.

Jayden’s death came at an exceptionally difficult time as the siblings recently lost their mother.

“And now I got to start a new chapter of my life without my little brother,” Hood Miller told WSB-TV.

Their family, who is not from Georgia, intend to have his body transported so he can be laid to rest near his mom.

“Now we got to take him to North Carolina to be buried by our mother,” his sister said.

Hood Miller told WSB-TV that the loss has taught her a painful lesson. “I’ve been told a lot to be careful who you hang with cause it could be the people you trust the most that do it,” she said.

Their cousin Terry told Fox 5 Atlanta that they don’t want Jayden’s death to be in vain, adding that they want to figure out why it seems to be easy for young people to obtain firearms.

“We just got work on that, it shouldn’t just be that easy to pick up a gun and shoot someone,” Terry said. “That’s what Jayden would want us to work on.”

“Get guns and think it is going to solve all their problems,” Hood Miller added. “It just caused more problems for the family and for you.”

Jayden is remembered as someone who loved watching football with his father, enjoyed anime like Dragon Ball and Naruto, and had dreams of becoming a mechanic, per 11 Alive.

A GoFundMe has been started by his family to help cover the cost of his burial in North Carolina.
